When I joined St. Mary’s in 1983, having earlier taught in a secondary school, a primary school and teachers’ college, I thought I was joining just another school. My perceptions changed within a very short time, as I become immersed in the daily activities of the school I was first struck by the sheer size of the school and the diverse age groups: six year olds in Std.1, to nineteen year olds in upper sixth form (currently IB2). They all integrated gently and cohesively, creating an extended family of Saints. In addition, I found loving and supportive people in a safe, secure and stimulating environment Though it is difficult to quantify such a thing as the school ethos or spirit, I have seen it in the care and compassion shown among members of the school community who have suffered illness, death of a loved one or any other misfortune. It is also evident in the team spirit displayed in the musical, swimming sports and games and reflected in the joy and curiosity of the very young as they learn, play and express themselves in our Junior School clubs, choirs and other activities they take part in. My days at Saints have been very fulfilling, though challenging. I look forward to more days of working with the Saints family, a family fully committed to enriching the quality of life, and promoting the wholesome development of the human person. “As St. Francis de Sale aptly put it, “Let us be who we are and be that well, in order to bring honour to the Master Craftsman whose handiwork we are.” HEADTEACHER, JUNIOR SCHOOL
